SFMTA SFpark study shows 14% fewer citations, 27% more meter payments with new meters and longer time limits

According to a report released yesterday by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), new meters with longer time limits have resulted in fewer parking tickets and more meter payments as expected under the SFpark project.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) SFpark project today launched PayByPhone parking payment service at meters in the Castro district, and will expand the service Citywide in the coming months. By making it easier to pay for parking, PayByPhone will help people avoid parking tickets.
SFMTA Makes Second Rate Adjustment at SFpark Meters

The SFMTA will implement its second demand-responsive rate adjustment at on-street SFpark meters in mid-October. As in the first rate adjustment, over two-thirds of the rates will decrease or remain the same.

The SFMTA announces that the first demand-responsive rate adjustment of hourly parking rates at all on-street automobile SFpark meters will begin in late July. The rate changes are based on parking demand data collected from wireless parking sensors embedded in the street as part of SFpark.

Beginning late July, the SFMTA will adjust parking rates at SFpark meters in pilot areas based on parking demand data from in-ground parking sensors. In this first rate adjustment, 68% of the new rates will be lower or remain the same as current rates.
SFMTA to Add Pay-by-Phone Convenience to Parking Meters

The SFMTA, in conjunction with the SFpark project, will add the convenience of Pay-by-Phone technology to San Francisco meters, including those in the SFpark pilot areas as well as regular City and Port of San Francisco meters later this year.

The SFMTA today announced that it will implement new meter time limits in SFpark pilot areas, starting with the Marina District today. SFpark meters in the Marina pilot area will increase to four-hour limits.
